Role Summary
EQ Retirement Solutions are looking for a Junior Software Engineer within their Product & Technology department. The main purpose of the role is to support the design, development, testing and maintenance of software solutions while building technical capability and domain knowledge, working under guidance within an Agile development environment.
Core Duties/Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Design, code, test and document simple programs and software components in line with agreed standards
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies and follow the Software Development Lifecycle and Agile TOM
- Work collaboratively with engineers and other stakeholders to deliver high‑quality software
- Apply engineering best practices through peer reviews, testing and quality controls
- Review own work to ensure accuracy, performance and maintainability
- Escalate and document technical issues related to design or functionality where appropriate
- Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance design, productivity and quality
- Support incident, defect and change management activities under supervision
- Demonstrate curiosity and interest in emerging tools, technologies and engineering practices
- Adhere to organisational security, privacy and ethical standards

Skills, Capabilities and Attributes
- The ideal candidate will have the below skills, capabilities and attributes
- Foundation-level experience or knowledge of software development principles
- Exposure to Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum)
- Basic understanding of full‑stack development concepts
- Familiarity with Java, Spring, SQL and relational databases
- Awareness of source control tools such as Git and Jira
- Understanding of testing approaches including unit and integration testing
- Interest in cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines and modern engineering practices
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
- A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous learning
- Motivation, enthusiasm and a positive attitude
