Duties And Responsibilities

  • The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the OGCCR Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer deployed at the NAUSS Centre, and under the overall guidance of the Representative for the GCC Region.
  • He/she will also work in close coordination with relevant colleagues in the OGCCR and other experts engaged in delivering technical support and expertise to the NAUSS Centre, as applicable.
  • The consultant will be expected to perform the following tasks:
  • Develop a research paper titled “AI and the Future of Crime.
  • Prepare a study on the nexus between terrorism, drugs and organized crime.
  • Support in the planning and implementation of the Global Conference on the nexus between terrorism and drugs to be held in Vienna.
  • Develop a study on organized crime online platforms and approaches to counter their use.
  • design and deliver a capacity-building trainings under the partnership with NYU University.
  • Develop and implement lectures and related training materials under the joint UNODC–NAUSS Diploma on Organized Crime / Criminal Justice Support (UNODC–NAUSS).
  • Qualifications/special skills
  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in the fields of Law, criminology or other related social sciences is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with an additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
  • At least ten (10) years of working experience in the fields of law, organized crime, criminal justice, crime prevention, and/or related fields, is required.
  • Practical experience in conducting research and capacity-building (training, mentoring, etc.) in the field of organized crime is required.
  • Knowledge of the relevant international conventions, standards, and norms is desirable.
  • Experience in the GCC and/or MENA region is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience of the UN System is desirable.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English and is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
