Responsibilities
- Operate the HYCO Steam Methane Reformer and CO2 recovery units and ancillary equipment as prescribed by Work Instruction Procedures
- Operate the pipeline network to supply hydrogen, steam, and CO2 to customers safely and efficiently
- Prepare and implement safety work permits, LOTO, and complete operations preventative maintenance activities
- Report shift production progress and plant status to the Shift Supervisor
- Ensure compliance with process safety, MOC’s, and OPHR requirements
- Assist in commissioning activities of the facility
- Follow shift turnover protocols to ensure safe and efficient handover
- Support maintenance and engineering team in maintaining plant reliability through preventive and corrective maintenance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Chemical Process Operations preferred; Associate Technical Degree considered with experience
- Minimum of 5 years plant operations experience
- Knowledgeable in local environmental and health and safety requirements
- Proficiency in English speaking and writing

Position Summary
- The HYCO Steam Methane Reformer Shift Operator is accountable for day to day operation of the APQ facility including Hydrogen SMR, CO2 Removal Unit, CO2 Compression, Auxiliary PSA, Membrane Unit, utilities, and pipeline network.
- The role reports to the HYCO Lead/Shift Supervisor.
Principal Accountabilities
- Maintain a safe work environment and demonstrate leadership with safe work processes.
- Operate the HYCO Steam Methane Reformer and CO2 recovery units and ancillary equipment including water treatment units.
- Operate the pipeline network to supply hydrogen, steam, and CO2 to customers safely and efficiently.
- Provide Operations support and guidance during commissioning of the plant.
- Manage plant production efficiently based on input from Plant Management and Production Engineering.
- Report shift production progress and plant status to the Shift Supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with process safety, MOC’s, and OPHR requirements.
- Assist in commissioning activities of the facility.
- Follow shift turnover protocols.
- Support maintenance and engineering team in maintaining plant reliability.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Chemical Process Operations preferred. Associate Technical Degree considered with experience.
- Minimum of 5 years plant operations experience; Hydrogen/SMR/acid gas removal knowledge a plus.
- Expectation to achieve Level 1 / Board Level status within 2 4 years.
- Knowledgeable in local environmental and health and safety requirements.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to employee involvement, team building and diversity.
- Ability to communicate between operations and maintenance teams.
- Proficiency in English speaking and writing.
