Lead horticultural research for diverse marginal environments, with emphasis on controlled environment agriculture.
Develop, lead, and implement research on high-value crops, vegetables, fruits, and landscaping in indoor controlled environments and suitable outdoor seasons.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop horticulture projects aligned with the organization's mandate and procure internal and external funding.
- Design and implement soil-less and soil-based crop protocols for marginal environments.
- Research crop tolerance and adaptation to salinity, drought, and other abiotic stresses.
- Maintain existing controlled environment facilities and introduce suitable horticultural crops.
- Collaborate on environmental control and nutrient systems.
- Assess greenhouse production economics and develop business plans for selected crops.
- Build the capacity of agricultural research systems and other stakeholders.
- Communicate findings through presentations, reports, scientific publications, and institutional publications.
- Supervise experiments, data collection, technicians, and field workers.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Ph.D. in horticulture or a related science.
- At least five years of research experience and good understanding of horticulture cropping systems.
- Skills in field experimentation, experimental design, and statistics.
- Experience producing vegetables and fruit under greenhouse conditions.
- Ability to independently design and conduct field research.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and international organizations.
- Strong publication record in refereed journals.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
Desirable Qualification
- Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
