We have an exciting opportunity for a number of Healthcare Support Workers to join the primary care team at HMP Altcourse.

Hours

This position is full time working 37.5 hours per week. We run healthcare 24/7, so shifts are varied.

Please note, this role requires flexibility and will include unsociable hours, such as evenings, weekends, and night shifts where applicable.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks

You will support a range of clinical and operational activities, including

Running and supporting healthcare clinics (bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health Checks)

Working in reception (Early Days in Custody), carrying out basic health assessments and blood‑borne virus screening

Supporting health promotion and wellbeing initiatives

Acting as pharmacy second checker and assisting with medication rounds

Working collaboratively with nurses, GPs, and wider healthcare professionals

What We’re Looking For

This is a clinical role, so it is essential that you have experience in at least some of the following: Bloods (phlebotomy/venepuncture), ECGs, NEWS2, Health Checks, Physical Observations (obs), Wound Care etc

Experience of working within a clinical setting, such as a hospital (A&E would be a bonus) or a prison / secure setting

Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care

A resilient, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to patient care

Ability to work effectively in a secure and fast‑paced environment
