Role summary
The Head of Platform owns the strategy, design, and operational excellence of the core platform layer.
The role builds the technical foundation for product innovation, enterprise scalability, secure integrations, and dependable performance.
The position works across engineering, product, and security to improve resilience, extensibility, and delivery speed.
Key responsibilities
- Define and own the platform roadmap, architecture, and foundational service strategy.
- Build reusable services, shared capabilities, APIs, and integration patterns.
- Ensure availability, observability, resilience, and performance across platform systems.
- Improve operational maturity through automation, monitoring, alerting, and incident management.
- Establish standards for APIs, service ownership, release readiness, and documentation.
- Partner with product teams to enable faster delivery through platform primitives.
- Ensure secure-by-design implementation with security and engineering teams.
- Support enterprise onboarding, customer-specific integrations, and platform extensibility.
- Track platform health, technical debt, dependency risk, and execution progress.
- Contribute to hiring, mentoring, and capability building in platform engineering.
Required qualifications
- At least 8 years of experience in platform engineering, backend systems, infrastructure, or technical operations.
- At least 3 to 5 years in a senior platform, infrastructure, or engineering leadership role.
- Experience in SaaS, cloud, enterprise software, or cybersecurity environments.
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems, reliability, APIs, cloud services, and operational excellence.
- Ability to work across engineering, product, and security teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience building enterprise-scale platform foundations.
- Exposure to AI, cybersecurity, or automation platforms.
- Understanding of developer experience, service governance, and technical enablement.
Decision authority and success metrics
Own platform design standards and prioritization within the approved roadmap.
Recommend platform technology choices, integration frameworks, and reliability improvements.
Escalate systemic issues affecting security, customer experience, or scalability.
Success is measured through uptime, reliability, delivery enablement, incident reduction, integration success, onboarding efficiency, and adoption of platform standards.
