General Technician

Position Overview

Maintenance and Repairs

• Respond to guest repair requests and communicate with guests to resolve maintenance issues.
• Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication on tools and kitchen and mechanical-room equipment.
• Inspect tools, equipment, and machines and operate building utility shut-offs and valves.
• Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and guestroom equipment.

Building and Grounds Work

• Perform painting, drywall and wood-trim repairs, light-bulb and air-conditioning filter replacement, and thorough cleanup.
• Repair interior and exterior landscaping and external landscaping sprinklers.
• Program televisions and perform housekeeping and engineering-related inventory duties.

Inventory and Shift Communication

• Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.
• Communicate daily activities and problems to other shifts using approved communication programs and standards.
• Enter and locate work-related information using computers.

Safety and Physical Work

• Use the Lockout/Tagout system before performing maintenance work.
• Follow company safety and security policies, report hazards and incidents, complete safety training and certifications, and store flammable materials properly.
• Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance, with heavier tasks performed with assistance.
• Move on stairs, service ramps, and ladders and perform bending, twisting, pulling, stooping, and overhead work.

Qualifications

• A driver's license is required.
• A high school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
• Some experience in general maintenance and interior or exterior surface preparation and painting is preferred.
• Hotel engineering or maintenance experience is a plus.
• No supervisory experience is required.

Technical Knowledge

• The role requires or develops knowledge of air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic and electronic controls, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building systems.

• Maintain a clean and professional appearance, protect company assets, maintain confidentiality, and work positively with others.
