As a Maintenance Engineering Technician at The Joseph, you will play an essential role in maintaining the beauty, functionality, safety, and overall condition of our luxury hotel. Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs throughout guestrooms, public areas, restaurants, meeting spaces, offices, and back-of-house areas.
Respond promptly and professionally to guestroom maintenance requests and operational service calls.
Troubleshoot and repair basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanical, and building systems .
Diagnose equipment and system issues and determine appropriate corrective action.
Perform repairs involving fixtures, faucets, toilets, drains, lighting, switches, outlets, doors, locks, hardware, furniture, and other hotel equipment.
Complete drywall repair, painting, caulking, patching, touch-ups, and other cosmetic repairs to maintain the appearance of the property.
Perform basic carpentry and furniture repairs as needed.
Inspect guestrooms and public spaces for maintenance concerns and proactively correct deficiencies before they impact the guest experience.
Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance according to hotel and manufacturer standards.
Maintain accurate documentation of preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and completed work orders.
Monitor equipment and building systems for unusual conditions and communicate potential issues to Engineering leadership.
Assist with HVAC systems, including troubleshooting guestroom temperature concerns and performing routine maintenance.
Assist with refrigeration and kitchen equipment maintenance and repairs as appropriate based on training and certification.
Support maintenance of hotel pools, spa equipment, pumps, motors, and other mechanical equipment as assigned.
Respond quickly to urgent maintenance situations, leaks, equipment failures, power issues, and other operational emergencies.
Coordinate with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Spa, Security, and other departments to minimize disruption to guests and hotel operations.
Communicate professionally with guests when completing repairs in occupied guestrooms or public areas.
Protect guest belongings and maintain guest privacy when entering guestrooms.
Maintain Engineering shops, storage areas, tools, equipment, and supplies in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
Properly use, maintain, and secure hotel tools and equipment.
Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of chemicals, tools, and machinery.
Assist with inspections and life-safety procedures as directed by Engineering leadership.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce equipment downtime, and extend the useful life of hotel assets.
Consistently support Marriott brand standards and Forbes Travel Guide service expectations .
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by Engineering leadership.
Previous hotel maintenance, building engineering, facilities maintenance, or related technical experience preferred.
Experience in a luxury, full-service, Forbes-rated, or Marriott hotel environment is a plus.
Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and general mechanical systems .
Experience with painting, drywall, carpentry, plumbing repairs, and general building maintenance.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
Ability to identify a problem, determine its cause, and complete repairs safely and efficiently.
HVAC, EPA, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, or other relevant trade certifications are highly desirable.
Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and work-order systems preferred.
Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining the appearance and condition of a luxury property.
Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative Engineering team.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to prioritize urgent guest and operational needs while completing scheduled preventive maintenance.
Professional communication skills and the ability to interact graciously with guests and team members.
A hospitality mindset and understanding that even a technical position contributes directly to the guest experience.
Dependable, punctual, and committed to maintaining The Joseph’s standards of excellence.
Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional emergency or on-call needs .
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in confined or elevated spaces as required.
Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and move equipment and materials required for the position.
Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
