Forward Deployed Engineers turn Luma's models into production systems that customers rely on.
The role embeds with customers, learns their workflows, defines problems, and builds systems using customer data and constraints.
The engineer owns both the customer relationship and the code.
What You Will Own
- Work directly with customers to understand workflows, constraints, and goals and define the problem.
- Build production systems on Luma's APIs, models, and internal tools.
- Prototype, ship, iterate, and maintain systems used by customers in real environments with real data.
- Own projects end to end from the first conversation through deployment.
- Build around platform gaps and feed recurring patterns back to platform and R&D for productization.
- Use AI to accelerate implementation while applying engineering judgment to build reliable systems.
First 90 Days
- Days 1 to 30: Embed with a first customer, learn the workflow, and define the real problem.
- Days 30 to 60: Build and deploy a production system that the customer uses.
- Days 60 to 90: Identify a pattern worth productizing and work with R&D to turn it into platform capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience with software shipped end to end.
- Strong proficiency in at least one general-purpose language such as Python, TypeScript, or Go.
- Ability to work across the stack and learn unfamiliar systems quickly.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
Nice to Have
- A track record of shipping real systems with real users is preferred.
- High agency and strong prioritization are preferred.
- Experience working directly with customers and translating their needs into software is preferred.
- Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders is preferred.
