Role Purpose The Forming Technician is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining tooling used in short-run and prototype manufacturing. This role ensures production efficiency by setting up, troubleshooting, and optimizing tooling for various press operations while maintaining high precision and quality standards.
Scope & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: · Perform assigned duties in accordance with documented procedures and work instructions · Design and manufacture tools and dies primarily for short run and prototype work · Set up, operate, and troubleshoot kick presses, 4-slide, and punch press tooling · Perform precision grinding and machining operations · Set up and operate milling and grinding machines · Interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to determine machining processes (GD&T) · Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with specifications · Troubleshoot and repair tooling and equipment issues · Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tooling design and manufacturing processes · Maintain tools and dies to ensure consistent production quality and minimize downtime
Work Experience & Skills
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in tool and die making preferred
Experience:
5+ years of experience as a Tool & Die Maker in a manufacturing environment, with strong emphasis on milling and grinding
Skills / Knowledge:
Strong proficiency in milling and grinding equipment
Solid understanding of machining principles, materials, and tooling
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
