Your Opportunity We are seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and coordination of fire and life safety systems across a wide range of project types. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders. This role involves both technical design and strategic consulting to support building code and life safety analysis, fire protection system design for mission critical facilities, develop compliance alternatives as well as performance-based solutions to help us help our clients achieve their objectives. Your Key Responsibilities - Design and engineer fire alarm, fire detection, fire suppression, smoke control, and special hazard systems for new and existing facilities. - Develop and review life safety plans and fire protection engineering deliverables. - Provide life safety and building code consulting services. - Analyze smoke management systems, means of egress, and fire hazards. - Develop site fire protection features and fire department access plans. - Develop building and fire code compliance alternatives, and Performance-Based Design (PBD) analyses. - Interface with AHJs and building owner insurance representatives. - Collaborate closely with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, technical security and civil engineering teams. - Communicate with clients and prepare clear, concise technical reports and documentation. Your Capabilities and Credentials - Strong working knowledge of fire alarm, fire suppression, and life safety system design. - Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and fire protection–related computational tools. - Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of Building & Fire Codes and NFPA standards. Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) is preferred. - Experience working with adopted building & fire codes and government standards and design guidelines (DOS, DOW, DOE, VA, GSA). - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Strong technical writing, presentation and interpersonal skills. - Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams. - Oversee and manage multiple concurrent projects/tasks. - Willingness to travel up to 15% as project needs require. Education and Experience - Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program. - Minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant fire protection engineering experience. - Professional Engineer (PE) license required, preferably in Fire Protection Engineering. - Prior Qualified Fire Protection Engineer (QFPE) on Federal projects experience in secure government, mission-critical buildings, laboratories or energy research and advanced manufacturing markets is preferred. Typical in person or home office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. - Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas-$110,300.00 - $165,500.00 Annually
- Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas-$130,200.00 - $195,300.00 Annually Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week. Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
