The Department of Finance at Durham University welcomes applications for a research internship in Finance.

The successful candidate(s) will work with departmental staff to support research activities across the broad spectrum of finance.

This is a flexible position, and applicants can apply for a 4 week or 6 week position.

The below role descriptor seeks to capture the main requirements of the role consistently, providing a summary of the key duties of the flexible role to help in setting expectations for applicants, flexible workers and line managers.

They are not intended to cover all duties which may be required.

Under instruction from colleagues in the department and following appropriate training:

• To support the research project through data collection and preliminary analysis related to Finance, under the guidance of the academic supervisor.
• To document research findings and results through short written reports and oral presentations.
• To participate in regular meetings and discussions with the research team, contributing ideas, asking questions, and communicating information clearly and accurately.
• To identify issues or limitations encountered during data analysis and discuss these constructively with the academic supervisor, proposing potential solutions where appropriate.
• To contribute to the planning and organisation of project tasks over the internship period, helping to meet agreed milestones and deadlines.
• To work collaboratively with research colleagues, developing professional communication skills and an understanding of academic research environments and interdisciplinary teamwork.
• To follow good research practice, including maintaining accurate records, using computational tools responsibly, and adhering to health, safety, and data governance requirements.
• To contribute to a collegial, inclusive, and respectful working environment in which all members of the research group are treated fairly and with respect.
• To engage in professional development opportunities, such as training sessions or seminars relevant to Finance related research.
• Develop experience and skills from working in a real-world work environment
