Purpose of the Role

Working under the direction of the project lead, the Assistant Intern will support the planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of a funded pilot project at Durham University.

The project will accommodate approximately 30 to 60 students who will be invited to attend a series of confidence and self-esteem building workshops delivered by specialists.

The intern will play a key administrative and engagement role, helping to ensure that students are recruited, supported and communicated with effectively throughout the programme.

Capturing data and feedback from the participants.

• Support the day-to-day running of the pilot project, keeping accurate records and documentation.
• Supporting practical arrangements for workshops, including room bookings, attendance lists, accessibility considerations and relevant student communications.
• Liaise with internal colleagues and external delivery partners to support a smooth programme experience.
• Maintain project timelines, action trackers and shared files so that key activities remain on schedule.

• Support the promotion of the workshops to eligible students through appropriate University channels.
• Assist with student recruitment, expressions of interest and assessment processes, ensuring information is handled accurately and sensitively.
• Act as a point of contact for students taking part in the project, responding to routine queries and signposting where required.
• Help ensure communications are clear, inclusive and aligned with the aims of the programme.

• Support the monitoring and evaluation of the project, including collecting attendance data, feedback and other agreed measures.
• Assist with preparing summary updates for the project lead, funder and relevant University stakeholders.
• Contribute to lessons learned from the pilot to help inform any future delivery or continuation of the project.

• Current Durham student.
• Genuine interest in student engagement and development.
• Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing tasks and meet deadlines.
• Confident written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with students, staff and external partners.
• Able to work independently, use initiative and contribute positively as part of a team.
• Good digital skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams and shared document systems.
• A sensitive, inclusive and professional approach when working with students and handling personal information.

Casual rate

Under instruction and following appropriate training:

• Work alongside the team to contribute to the delivery of specific project(s)
• Develop experience and skills from working in a real-world work environment
• Contribute specific skills (i.e. technical, research, subject specific knowledge) to the work of the department
• Plan and prioritise own work, adhering to agreed deliverables and timeframes and referring any issues with workload or timeframes to colleagues.
