Who will you be working with?
Our Field Service team provides exceptional Customer Service around the globe. We offer different types of services within the Freight and Transit departments. You will be representing Wabtec’s ability to perform the best field assistance to our customers.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Field Technical Service group, you will be responsible for:
Develop a solid and thorough understanding of all Wabtec systems on cars, namely the door system, the brake system, the HVAC system, and the pantograph system and their electrical and mechanical components. Be sure to thoroughly understand and be able to apply the Wabtec door adjustment procedure. Be Wabtec’s representative in front of the rail car builder.
Assist the rail car builder (and occasionally the transit authority) with debugging and troubleshooting the Wabtec systems (as per contractual agreements between Wabtec and the customer) – on an as required basis.
Assist the rail car builder during the car commissioning and warranty phases of the project by providing support for the Wabtec systems at the transit authority location and at the rail car assembly plant in other locations as required.
Troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical problems on the Wabtec systems. Confirm the problem identified by the rail car builder. Reproduce the identified problem before undertaking repairs or parts replacements. When possible, validate your findings using the « double swap » troubleshooting method.
Identify and isolate defective mechanical and electrical components of the Wabtec systems.
Repair (if possible) and/or replace defective components of the Wabtec systems.
To succeed in this role, you must have:
Technical competence in both electrical & mechanical systems
Hands on type of person
Ability to lead temporary manpower is an asset
Integrity & honesty
Accountability
Ability to work unsupervised in transit authority locations.
Valid driver’s license
Training/Experience/Knowledge
Technical training in both electrical & mechanical systems
Requires at least 3 years of working as a technician or equivalent
Knowledge of the rail industry is an asset
Strong knowledge of PCs / laptops
Ability to troubleshoot using the laptop as a tool
Strong knowledge of MS Excel
Ability to perform software downloads
Strong mechanical aptitudes
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Standing, bending, and twisting for 8 hours per day
Ability to lift 50lbs.
Wearing PPE including but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, bump cap cut resistant gloves at various times based on current project.
Safety glasses & steel/composite toe shoes are required for entirety of shift.
May require step stools or ladders.
Must successfully pass initial and random drug screenings.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
While this position is remote, it may include occasional work at a Wabtec office/site or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $29. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
