We are seeking a Field Application Engineer Intern based in Elgin, IL (Northwest of Chicago) to learn and contribute to our team of Field Application Engineers who are a critical technical resource to our customer base and sales team, providing further insight into HARTING products, their applications, and supporting the troubleshooting process for customers both virtually and in the field. The Field Application Engineering team is the go-to for any technical question!

HARTING's Intern Development Program (Summer 2026) consists of full-time, paid, and on-site internships. Our internships are an opportunity to work on hands-on projects with your team, to work cross-functionally with other departments, and gain exposure to the technical aspects of our company. Please note: we do not provide housing in Illinois.

You will have the opportunity to be exposed to the following

Actively participate in gaining understanding of our product line of industrial-grade electrical connectors (their specifications, recommended applications, current and potential customer base).

Learn how technical consultative sales teams like ours have a focus on “designing-in” real solutions for our customers, and how this team support the “winning process” through developing a comprehensive technical solution and proposal, providing technical support, building a Bill of Materials, and coordinating prototype/sample builds.

Support the creation of technical drawings and documentation per customer requirements.

Assists Engineering in cable assembly and backplane designs. This includes selecting parts, writing assembly procedures and quoting.

Maintain and create technical documentation for customized components (i.e. private label, customized, modified, kitted parts).

Maintain and create technical presentations and trainings for customers and internal HARTING personnel focused on product specifications, capabilities, and applications.

Support the FAE, Sales and Marketing Teams with activities related to samples, preparation for events, training, certifications and listings.

Other duties as assigned.

Skills and experience to thrive in this role

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Master's in Engineering / Business, or MBA.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products or equivalent (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Experience with 2D / 3D CAD Software a plus
