Position Summary
The Specialist – Family Medicine is responsible for delivering comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered primary healthcare services for individuals and families across all age groups in a tertiary-care governmental hospital setting.
The role focuses on preventive care, chronic disease management, health promotion, early diagnosis, and coordination of patient care while ensuring high standards of clinical quality and patient safety.
The position is aligned with the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) licensing requirements in Qatar.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive outpatient care for patients across all age groups, including acute and chronic medical conditions
- Diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of common illnesses and health concerns
- Promote preventive healthcare through routine screenings, vaccinations, lifestyle counseling, and health education
- Manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and dyslipidemia according to evidence-based guidelines
- Conduct patient assessments, physical examinations, and interpretation of diagnostic investigations
- Coordinate referrals to specialty services and ensure continuity of care when needed
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation within the Hospital Information System (HIS)
- Participate in multidisciplinary discussions, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure adherence to clinical governance, infection control, and patient safety standards
- Provide counseling and education to patients and families regarding treatment plans, preventive measures, and healthy lifestyle practices
- Participate in departmental meetings, CME activities, and hospital committees as required
- Support organizational goals related to patient experience, operational efficiency, and healthcare quality
Qualifications & Experience
- Medical Degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution
- Arab Board, American Board, UK CCT/MRCGP, Canadian Board, or equivalent recognized qualification in Family Medicine
- Minimum 3 years of post-board experience as a Specialist in Family Medicine
- Experience in governmental, primary healthcare, teaching, or tertiary-care hospitals preferred
- Eligibility for Specialist license under Qatar DHP regulations is mandatory
- Strong clinical, communication, and patient counseling skills
- Ability to manage patients independently within a multidisciplinary environment
