Equipment Operator - Side Hoe Operator

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Side Hoe Operator to join our Underground Utilities team in the Edmonton area.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a side boom/side hoe excavator to support the installation of underground water, sewer, storm, and utility infrastructure while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.

• Operate side hoe excavators and other heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Assist with the installation of underground utilities including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and related infrastructure.
• Perform trenching, backfilling, grading, and pipe placement activities.
• Work closely with pipe layers, labourers, foremen, and survey crews to ensure accurate installation.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and complete required documentation.
• Identify and report equipment deficiencies, maintenance requirements, and safety concerns.
• Follow project plans, grades, specifications, and utility locates.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Participate in toolbox meetings, hazard assessments, and safety initiatives.
• Assist with other duties as assigned to support project requirements.

• Previous experience operating a side hoe excavator in underground utility construction.
• Strong understanding of underground utility installation practices and excavation procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, grades, and utility locates.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License; Class 3 with air brakes is considered an asset.
• Ground Disturbance Level II certification considered an asset.
• CSTS, WHMIS, and other industry safety certifications are considered assets.
