This role is for an Electrical Design Engineer within the Intelligent Infrastructure team, supporting the delivery of electrical infrastructure for highways, public realm, transport, and EV charging projects.
Undertake electrical design activities including:
Low voltage (LV) distribution systems
Feeder pillars and cabinet design
Cable sizing, routing, and protection
Earthing and bonding design
Electrical load assessments and supply coordination
Deliver design outputs in accordance with relevant UK standards and regulations (e.g., BS 7671, Electricity at Work Regulations) and project requirements.
Support the planning and design of EV charging infrastructure, including:
Assessing charging requirements based on location and user profiles (on-street, workplace, destination, and en-route charging)
Reviewing existing electrical networks for spare capacity and feasibility
Supporting the selection of appropriate EV charging technologies and configurations
Assisting in the integration of EV infrastructure within highways and public realm schemes
Considering accessibility and compliance requirements
Develop a clear understanding of project scope and ensure timely delivery of electrical design packages across schemes such as:
Motorways and All-Purpose Trunk Roads
Local Authority roads and residential routes
Public realm and town centre developments
Transport interchanges and hubs
Commercial, industrial, and car park developments
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including lighting designers, civil engineers, and ITS specialists, to ensure integrated and compliant designs.
Provide regular updates on project progress, risks, issues, and design changes to the line manager and project manager.
Coordinate with CAD technicians to ensure drawings are delivered accurately and in line with project timelines and standards.

Qualifications
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical).
Experience Requirements
Min 4 years of hands‐on experience in Electrical Design for Infrastructure Projects.
Mandatory Skills
Hands-on experience with Electrical OM, Amtech, or similar Electrical design software.
Experience working with ACC, ProjectWise and SharePoint
Hands-on experience with AutoCAD
Competency in workload planning, task allocation, and time estimation
Key Competencies
Ability to perform Cable calculation, Voltage drop calculations,
Ability to produce single line diagram, cable schedule, standard details (Feeder Pilar, Earth Electrode, Termination Types)
Sound knowledge of British standards and manuals.
Awareness of UK local authority specifications.
Experience in coordinating with DNO & Manufacturers.
Assists with establishing, maintaining, and enforcing the use of proper CAD standards and procedures.
Undertake reviews of work produced by others to ensure high quality of CAD output.
Proficient in the use of standard MS office software.
Commitment to work as part of a design team focused on project delivery.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
