Role Overview

The Electrical Reliability Engineer improves the reliability, availability, and maintainability of plant electrical assets.

The role leads electrical reliability best practices, continuous improvement, and evaluation of new technologies.

The position focuses on VFDs, switchgear, transformers, and protection relays to support long-term asset integrity.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Design, calculate, configure, and test power system protection systems.
  • Use ETAP for load-flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, and ETAP STAR analyses.
  • Maintain and assess VFDs from ABB and Siemens, including ABB ACS800, ACS880, and ACS6000 series.
  • Perform transformer design, calculations, maintenance, and DGA analysis.
  • Maintain LV, MV, and HV switchgear and define preventive-maintenance requirements.
  • Analyze partial discharge in MV motors, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Apply thermography and ultrasound for electrical condition monitoring.
  • Use FLIR software to analyze thermal images and identify asset conditions.
  • Maintain UPS systems and battery chargers and assess synchronous motors and generators.
  • Apply RCM and FMEA reliability methodologies and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Apply cathodic-protection knowledge and hazardous-area electrical installation requirements.
  • Use SAP and MERIDIUM APM in electrical reliability activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • At least 12 years of electrical engineering experience in petrochemical, oil, and gas sectors is required.
  • Strong knowledge of power system protection, ETAP, VFDs, switchgear, motors, transformers, UPS systems, and battery chargers is required.
  • Strong critical-thinking and analytical problem-solving skills are required.
