Role Overview
Vertiv is hiring a Protection Relay Programming & Testing Engineer for MV and LV protection systems.
The role requires hands-on capability across relay programming, protection settings, testing, commissioning, communication configuration, troubleshooting, and final validation.
Qualification and Experience
- A B.E. or B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering is required.
- The role requires 7–12 years of relevant experience in protection relay programming, testing, commissioning, and protection or control systems.
- Candidates should have predominant experience with MV switchgear, control and relay panels, and electrical protection systems.
Protection Relay Expertise
- Hands-on experience is required in programming, configuring, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting MV and LV protection relays.
- Relevant relay manufacturers include ABB, Siemens, and Schneider Electric.
- Relevant platforms include ABB Relion, Siemens SIPROTEC, Schneider Easergy/SEPAM, or equivalent.
- Knowledge is required of overcurrent, earth fault, directional, voltage, frequency, transformer, motor, and busbar protection schemes.
- Candidates must interpret single-line, protection, control, and wiring diagrams and protection philosophies.
- Secondary injection, functional, trip, interlock, and end-to-end protection testing experience is required.
- Experience with OMICRON or equivalent relay test equipment is highly preferred.
Testing and Commissioning
- Perform FAT, SAT, commissioning, site testing, troubleshooting, and final validation of MV/LV protection systems.
- Verify relay settings against approved protection coordination studies.
- Prepare and review relay setting files, test procedures, test reports, commissioning reports, and protection documentation.
Communication and Networking
- Practical experience is required with Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, Profinet, IEC 61850, and industrial Ethernet.
- Understanding is required of IEC 61850 IEDs, Station Bus, Process Bus, GOOSE, MMS, and SCL configuration.
- The role covers switches, VLANs, IP addressing, gateways, network redundancy, and basic network diagnostics.
- Troubleshoot communication across relays or IEDs, network infrastructure, PLC/RTU, SCADA, and EPMS systems.
Control and System Architecture
- Integrate protection relays with PLC, RTU, SCADA, EPMS/BMS, and other supervisory control systems.
- Review communication architecture drawings, network topologies, I/O lists, signal lists, communication matrices, and cause-and-effect diagrams.
- Perform end-to-end communication testing for commands, statuses, alarms, trips, measurements, events, and interlocks.
