Lab37 Robotics is seeking an EDS/Schematic/Harness Engineer to own the electrical distribution system, system schematics, and wire-harness design and release for our robotic food-production systems. Working closely with the electrical system architect, this engineer will translate the overall electrical architecture into robust, serviceable, and manufacturable power and data distribution designs in an enterprise E-CAD platform, while providing analysis and recommendations on architecture, component selection, interfaces, packaging, and implementation tradeoffs. The role will carry designs from schematic and harness development through prototype, validation, supplier build, production release, and ongoing field support, while establishing and maintaining the E-CAD ecosystem, including libraries, documentation standards, drawings, wire lists, BOMs, and revision controls required for a scalable electrical design process.
What you’ll do
• Lead the reconstruction and migration of the existing electrical system design into a database-driven enterprise E-CAD platform, including custom components and devices, libraries, templates, connectivity rules, drawing formats, and automated outputs; verify the migrated design against the existing system.
• Translate established system architecture, requirements, and interface definitions into detailed system schematics, interconnect definitions, harness designs, pinouts, wire lists, BOMs, and manufacturing and installation drawings; own the accuracy, maintenance, configuration control, and production release of these deliverables.
• Collaborate with the electrical system architect and mechanical, PCBA, firmware, software, field service, and manufacturing teams to resolve component and connector selection, routing, packaging, grounding, shielding, strain relief, serviceability, and other implementation details while providing analysis and recommendations on design tradeoffs.
• Support hands-on prototype builds, system integration, and validation; conduct continuity, insulation-resistance, voltage-drop, power-up, and communication testing as applicable; drive electrical and interconnect issues to root cause; and keep the released design documentation aligned with the physical system.
• Partner with harness suppliers and production teams on DFM/DFA, first-article builds, workmanship and inspection requirements, component substitutions, quality issues, engineering changes, and the transition from prototypes to repeatable production and field support.
What we are looking for
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, plus 5+ years of experience designing and releasing electrical distribution or wire-harness systems for robotics, automotive, aerospace, industrial automation, or similarly complex electromechanical products.
• Proficiency with a database-driven electrical design or harness-engineering platform, including experience creating custom components, managing libraries, generating drawings and BOMs, and working within configuration-controlled release and engineering-change processes.
• Demonstrated experience producing complete, buildable harness documentation packages, including system schematics, harness drawings, connector definitions, pinouts, wire lists, BOMs, and assembly or installation documentation.
• Strong understanding of wire, cable, connector, and circuit-protection selection; current capacity and voltage drop; grounding and shielding; thermal derating; EMI/EMC; separation of power, motor, sensor, and communication circuits; and UL/NEC requirements.
• Hands-on experience building, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems, with the ability to communicate clearly across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, technicians, and other technical stakeholders.

This role is based in our Pittsburgh office.

The base salary range for this role is $90,000 - $180,000 per year.
Actual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package.
You may also be eligible for equity awards and an annual performance-based bonus.
