A Day in the Life:
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager provides leadership and technical expertise to support a strong safety-first culture within the plant.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving EHS programs that prevent serious injuries, fatalities, environmental incidents, and regulatory non-compliance while ensuring adherence to company standards and applicable legislation.
What You'Ll Be Doing
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs, standards, and initiatives with a focus on preventing Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIFs) and High Potential Exposures (HPEs).
- Provide technical EHS guidance and support to plant leadership and employees.
- Coach, mentor, and develop employees to strengthen safety leadership and promote a safety-first culture.
- Deliver and coordinate EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Support the implementation of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles, training, and tools.
- Ensure compliance with corporate EHS requirements, environmental permits, and local, provincial/state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and observations to evaluate program effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
- Investigate injuries, near misses, environmental incidents, and non-compliance events, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Partner with corporate environmental teams to support sustainability initiatives and environmental performance improvements.
- Manage fire protection, security systems, and insurance-related inspections and recommendations.
- Maintain emergency response plans and coordinate responses to environmental incidents, fires, natural disasters, injuries, and other emergencies.
- Support Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs where applicable.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders on EHS matters.
- Lead and support local safety committees and collaborate with corporate EHS teams to drive continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of three (3) years of environmental, health, and safety experience.
- Demonstrated success implementing EHS programs and driving improvements in Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention and High Potential Exposure (HPE) reduction.
- Strong knowledge of environmental, occupational health and safety, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, audits, inspections, and corrective action planning.
- Ability to influence and engage employees at all levels of the organization.
- Strong facilitation, coaching, presentation, and training skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced industrial environment.
