DRY DOCK - MARINE SPECIES OBSERVER - OAHU (Regular Full Time) Location: HDCC

DHO JV is joint venture between contractors, Dragados, Hawaiian Dredging Construction, Co., and Orion Government Services. This collaboration aims to develop a new dry dock for the Governments Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY) and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (IMF) Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, working on important marine infrastructure projects with NAVPAC Pacific.

JOB OVERVIEW: The Marine Species Observer, will monitor and analyze marine life/movement around the project site zone and report any sightings. Any sightings will be reported following federal/state guidelines.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Detect and identify marine mammals (such as whales or dolphins) and sea turtles, and other protected marine species such as swimming near the waters surface.

Alert construction personnel and EV manager of other environmental concerns (e.g., spills, water quality concerns) as part of monitoring duties.

Other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Po ssess valid Driver’s License.

More than one year of marine species observational experience

Able to identify marine species, at minimum, to type of animal (e.g., shark, seal, dolphin, whale, turtle, ray, etc.), if sightings are brief or viewing conditions are poor, or to species if positive identification is possible.

Understand marine species behavior enough to be able to observe direction of movement, know diving patterns, and be able to determine when an observed species has departed or remained close to the project area.

Be able to evaluate group size to state with high certainty how may animals were observed when they are seen in a group.

Prepare field reports ensuring accuracy and quality of work products.

Communication: Write, speak, and communicate fluently in English.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Strong ability to read and interpret technical plans and specifications for construction projects.

Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Must be able to be approved for a base pass on JBPHH.

Project schedule- 6 days a week (Monday-Saturday), may require night shifts.
