Drilling Fluids Specialist / Mud Engineer

Location

• The role is based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
• The work provides wellsite support on onshore and offshore drilling rigs.

Role Objective

Field Operations

• Work with water-based, oil-based, and synthetic-based drilling, workover, and completion fluids.
• Execute, report, and plan drilling fluids packages in line with international mud company standards.
• Manage daily mud specifications, testing, logistics, inventory, and communication with drilling representatives and contractors.
• Maintain fluid performance, formulate systems, control parameters, and mitigate drilling problems.
• Monitor fluid displacement during cementing jobs.

Reporting and Control

• Prepare end-of-well reports, pre- and post-well analysis, daily fluid reports, inventory reports, and solids-control reports.
• Manage engineering software tools and daily drilling reports as appropriate.
• Maintain well cost records and monitor cost control against drilling fluid proposals.
• Document drilling-fluid problems and recommend technical solutions and improvements.

Equipment and Compliance

• Maintain rig-site product inventory and mud laboratory equipment functionality.
• Verify, calibrate, and clean laboratory equipment at least every 15 days while it is used in the field.
• Maintain quality, environmental, and QH&S management requirements.
• Support legal, regulatory, corporate policy, product quality, safety, governance, and sustainability obligations.

Qualifications and Experience

• 5-8 years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Specialist or Mud Engineer is required.
• Experience with drilling fluids, completion fluids, drilling waste management, and solids control is required.
• Completed mud school or passed the PPC equivalency mud school examination is required.
• A relevant engineering degree is preferred, or an equivalent Technical Science qualification with sufficient senior field experience.
• GCC experience, preferably in the UAE, is preferred.
• Offshore operations experience is highly preferred.
