Job Summary
Prepare accurate technical drawings, plans, and layouts from engineering, architectural, and project requirements.
Convert design concepts, specifications, and measurements into detailed drawings using CAD and other drafting software.
Work with engineers, architects, project managers, and site teams to ensure accurate, practical, and compliant drawings.
Drafting Responsibilities
- Prepare 2D and 3D technical drawings using AutoCAD or other CAD software.
- Develop architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and MEP drawings.
- Prepare shop drawings, construction drawings, as-built drawings, layouts, details, sections, elevations, and plans.
- Review drawings, identify errors or missing details, and make revisions based on stakeholder comments.
- Coordinate drawings across disciplines and resolve clashes or conflicts.
- Take site measurements and incorporate actual site conditions when required.
- Maintain drawing numbering, revision control, drawing registers, and electronic and hard-copy files.
- Issue and distribute controlled drawing copies and update drawings for approved project changes.
- Follow relevant health, safety, quality, company, project, code, and standards requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Diploma, certificate, or degree in drafting, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Good knowledge of AutoCAD and relevant CAD software.
- Ability to read engineering and architectural drawings and interpret specifications.
- Strong knowledge of dimensions, scales, symbols, drawing conventions, and technical drawing standards.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, communication, and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple drawings and revisions.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and document-control procedures.
- Knowledge of BIM software such as Revit is an advantage depending on the discipline.
Coordination and Performance
Coordinate with architects, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers, MEP teams, quantity surveyors, project managers, site teams, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, clients, and other stakeholders.
Key performance areas include drawing accuracy, timely completion, revision control, compliance, effective coordination, reduced errors, and complete as-built documentation.
