Taproot Community Support Services (formerly WJS Canada) works to improve the lives of persons in their communities through a variety of programs and services. This Supportive Independent Living program in Edmonton, AB, encourages persons with developmental disabilities to maximize their independence, further develop their unique strengths and enjoy community integration through social, recreational and community activities. The program works with one female person served in our Semi-Independent Living Program. This individual has complex mental health needs, including a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Person with Developmental Disabilities, Borderline Personality Disorder and Addiction/Substance use disorder
The Disability Services Worker (DSW), under supervision of their supervisor, facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical, behavioural, emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. DSWs develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community, family members, guardians and employers. The DSWs will support adults to gain independent living skills, including assistance with daily living activities including meal preparation, household chores, laundry, etc. and community access (accessing transportation to educational, recreation and community programs/events). They also, mentor and advocate for the client, and empower them to be self reliant and confident. This position reports to the Team Leader. An additional $3.30 per hour will be paid when supporting complex needs clients. This additional amount does not apply to scheduled trainings/meetings and non-complex shifts. Scheduling Two (2) permanent part-time positions with the following available schedules: • Position 1=24hrs per week, Monday through Friday 1700-2100, working alternate Saturdays. FILLED • Position 2=20hrs per week, schedule varies based on clients needs and expectations.

ALSO helpful, but will train if needed: • First Aid/CPR Certification • Crisis Prevention Intervention, Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies, Foundations and Disabilities Training • Knowledge of basic health and safety rules and guidelines for personal health and safety, as appropriate.
