Disability Services Worker - Supported Independent Living, Full-Time

This Supportive Independent Living program in Edmonton, AB, encourages persons with developmental disabilities to maximize their independence, further develop their unique strengths and enjoy community integration through social, recreational and community activities. This program supports one female person served in our Semi-Independent Living Program. The person served has a mild intellectual disability, ADHD, executive functioning and memory challenges, as well as mental health diagnoses, including Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Staff play an important role in providing individualized support, helping the person served develop effective coping strategies, manage appointments and daily responsibilities, build independence, and actively participate in community activities and social opportunities. Staff also encourage personal growth, promote well-being, and support the achievement of the individual's goals.

The Disability Services Worker (DSW), under supervision of their supervisor, facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical, behavioural, emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. DSWs develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community, family members, guardians and employers. The DSWs will support adults to gain independent living skills, including assistance with daily living activities including meal preparation, household chores, laundry, etc. and community access (accessing transportation to educational, recreation and community programs/events). They also, mentor and advocate for the client, and empower them to be self reliant and confident. This position reports to the Team Leader. An additional $3.30 per hour will be paid when supporting complex needs clients. This additional amount does not apply to scheduled trainings/meetings and non-complex shifts. Scheduling One (1) permanent full-time position that will work 40 hours per week: • 0900-1900 on a two week rotation; • Week 1= Sunday through Wednesday • Week 2= Monday through Thursday
