This program in Edmonton Alberta, encourages persons with developmental disabilities to maximize their independence, further develop their unique strengths and enjoy community integration through social, recreational and community activities. This program provides support to an older male individual with a mild intellectual and developmental disability. He is semi-independent, cognitively aware, and frequently accesses and participates in community activities.
The Disability Services Worker (DSW), under supervision of their supervisor, facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical, behavioural, emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. DSWs develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community, family members, guardians and employers. The DSWs will support adults to gain independent living skills, including assistance with daily living activities including meal preparation, household chores, laundry, etc. and community access (accessing transportation to educational, recreation and community programs/events). They also, mentor and advocate for the client, and empower them to be self reliant and confident. This position reports to the Team Leader. Scheduling Two (2) permanent part-time positions that will work 17.5 hours per week, working a two week rotation: • Scheduled hours are 1200-1700 • Position 1= Week 1:Monday, Tuesday Friday and Saturday. Week 2: Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday • Position 2= Week 1: Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday Bona Fide Occupational Requirement (BFOR): This is a gender-specific position based upon the behaviour and needs of the persons served.

• Previous experience providing specialized supports such as FASD, drug and alcohol addictions, intergenerational trauma, mental health, suicide and other behavioural issues. • A positive role model; calm, confident, patient, self motivated and motivates others • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, who can set & maintain healthy boundaries. • MUST HAVE Valid class 5 driver license, suitable driving abstract and reliable vehicle • High School or GED Diploma ALSO helpful, but will train if needed: • First Aid/CPR Certification • Crisis Prevention Intervention, Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies, Foundations and Disabilities Training • Knowledge of basic health and safety rules and guidelines for personal health and safety, as appropriate.
