**Position Overview:** The Director of Agronomy is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive care, maintenance, and operation of our diverse sports and recreational facilities.
This leadership role requires a deep understanding of turf management, team leadership, and effective resource management.
Key Responsibilities
- o **Turf Management:** Oversee the maintenance of all club facilities, including the 18-hole golf course, golf academy, practice areas, shooting grounds, and rugby and cricket grounds.
- o **Course Maintenance:** Plan, schedule, and supervise all activities related to the repair, care, and operation of the golf course.
- This includes directing and scheduling tasks such as mowing, watering, weeding, rolling, spiking, and fertilization of greens, tees, and fairways.
- o **Plant Propagation:** Lead and participate in the propagation of grass and other plants essential to golf course quality.
- o **Pest Control:** Develop and implement methods for controlling fungus, weeds, rodents, and insects, and direct the safe and effective use of fungicides and insecticides.
- o **Equipment Management:** Supervise the maintenance and repair of all equipment, ensuring they are in optimal condition for daily operations.
- o **Team Leadership:** Monitor staff performance, providing guidance and support to ensure high standards of work.
- Ensure all team members receive effective orientation and ongoing training.
- o **Reporting & Budgeting:** Prepare and present monthly and annual reports, including projected budgets and expenses for course maintenance.
- Ensure financial efficiency in all operations.
- o **Water Management:** Ensure the pumping station supplies sufficient water to meet the needs of the course and other facilities.
- o **Inventory & Purchasing:** Manage and coordinate with relevant departments for inventory control and the purchasing of necessary equipment and supplies.
- o **Environmental Compliance & Sustainability:** Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices.
- Stay updated on industry trends and innovations to continuously improve course conditions
- **Cross-Departmental Collaboration:** Work closely with other departments to align maintenance operations with the overall goals and standards of the club.
- Participate in strategic planning to ensure long-term success and continuous improvement of club facilities.
- **Requirements and skills:**
- · Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or a related field.
- · Certifications or professional memberships are often preferred.
- · Minimum of 4 years of experience in turfgrass management, preferably in the golf course industry.
- · Proven experience in a leadership role overseeing multiple golf courses or high-profile properties.
- · Expertise in turfgrass management, soil sciences, and plant health.
- · Knowledge of irrigation systems, pest management, and environmental stewardship.
- · Familiarity with modern turf equipment and maintenance practices.
- · Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presenting to management or committees.
- · Experience in managing operating budgets, capital expenditures, and resource allocation.
- · Ability to develop and implement long-term agronomic strategies and sustainable practices.
