RBC is seeking a Director, Data Engineer to lead data engineering, data quality, and data governance capabilities across the bank.

The leader will define and execute data strategy in a highly regulated banking environment.
Strategic leadership
- Partner with business, analytics, risk, and technology leaders to align enterprise data platforms with strategic priorities.
- Establish data management standards, governance frameworks, and engineering best practices.
Data engineering and delivery
- Lead teams responsible for data pipelines, data integration, and enterprise data platforms.
- Ensure platforms are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
- Drive modern data engineering practices, automation, and DevOps pipelines.
Data quality and governance
- Drive data lineage, metadata management, and data catalog adoption.
- Lead data quality and governance capabilities across the organization.
Team and site leadership
- Build, lead, and mentor data engineers, data quality analysts, and data governance specialists.
- Act as Site Lead and develop the local technology organization.
- Coach leaders and engineers and create career growth and capability development paths.
Operational excellence
- Oversee multiple data initiatives and align delivery with business goals, quality standards, and timelines.
- Manage resource planning, budgets, and vendor partnerships.
- Establish delivery metrics and continuous improvement processes.
Must-have qualifications
- 10 or more years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, or enterprise data management.
- 5 or more years of technical leadership or people management experience.
- Experience operating enterprise data platforms and large-scale data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality frameworks, metadata management, and modern data architecture.
- Experience in highly regulated industries such as banking or financial services.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, deliver large-scale initiatives, and communicate with senior leadership.
Nice-to-have qualifications
- Experience with Snowflake, AWS, Azure, or Databricks.
- Experience with Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or similar governance and data quality tools.
- Experience building data products, domain-oriented data architectures, or distributed engineering teams.
