Introduction to the team

  • Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools
  • Our Content organization is looking for a Principal Software Developer to work on our Content Platform’s capabilities
  • These capabilities enable Expedia Group to acquire, enrich and distribute hundreds of millions of assets

In this role, you will

  • Provide technical leadership for content platforms and services, setting architectural direction for backend and full stack systems
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, designers, and engineering leaders to shape domain strategy
  • Lead the design of cloud native applications on AWS, including low level system design, API design across REST and gRPC interfaces, and data modeling
  • Drive technical standards and engineering practices across multiple teams
  • Tackle complex, cross domain technical challenges, guiding teams through architecture decisions
  • Use data, observability signals, and experimentation to guide technical decisions
  • Guide the safe integration and operation of AI/ML enabled capabilities in the content domain

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrated ownership of multi service or domain level content platforms
  • Deep technical expertise designing and operating cloud native applications on AWS, including gRPC, Redis/Valkey, Cassandra, MySQL, and PostgreSQL
  • Experience using AI assisted engineering tools and workflows
  • Bilingual in French and English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience defining and evolving architecture for content platforms spanning multiple services or domains
  • Provide technical leadership for content platforms and services, setting architectural direction for backend systems
  • Provide technical guidance for full stack, operator facing, and partner facing capabilities where needed
  • Strong focus on engineering excellence and operational rigor
  • Ability to use data, experimentation, and metrics to set technical direction
  • Experience leading or guiding teams in implementing or extending AI/ML enabled content capabilities

Salary Range

  • The total cash range for this position in Montreal is $181,000.00 to $253,500.00
  • Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $289,500.00

Work Location

  • This role is only available in Montreal, in alignment with our flexible work model which requires employees to be in office at least three days a week
