Role Overview
The Destination Management Specialist develops, coordinates, and optimizes destination experiences, travel services, tourism products, and local partnerships.
The role works with tourism operators, hotels, attractions, transportation providers, event partners, travel agencies, and internal teams to support high-quality experiences and sustainable tourism growth.
Destination Development
- Develop destination management strategies, tourism programmes, travel experiences, destination packages, itineraries, and tourism products.
- Research destinations, tourism trends, visitor preferences, market demand, competitor offerings, seasonal demand, and emerging travel opportunities.
- Identify improvements to visitor experience, service quality, operational efficiency, and destination competitiveness.
Partners and Operations
- Build and maintain relationships with hotels, tour operators, attractions, restaurants, transportation providers, travel agencies, tourism organizations, and local partners.
- Coordinate destination services, itineraries, activities, logistics, supplier requirements, events, conferences, incentive travel, and group travel planning.
- Negotiate supplier services, pricing, availability, and commercial agreements, and monitor provider quality and performance.
Marketing and Analysis
- Collaborate with Marketing and Sales teams on destination marketing campaigns, promotional initiatives, trade events, and tourism partnerships.
- Analyze customer feedback, visitor behavior, satisfaction levels, destination performance, tourism trends, and competitor destinations.
- Prepare reports, market analyses, performance updates, budgets, and strategic recommendations.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate with local authorities, tourism boards, community organizations, and other relevant stakeholders where required.
- Manage multiple destination projects, suppliers, timelines, and operational requirements.
- Ensure destination services meet relevant safety, legal, quality, and operational requirements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in destination management, tourism, travel, hospitality, event management, or a related field is required.
- Strong tourism operations, destination development, travel services, customer experience, destination planning, and travel logistics knowledge is required.
- Experience with relevant hospitality, tourism, travel, transportation, or destination partners is required.
- Strong communication, negotiation, coordination, relationship-building, problem-solving, organization, and deadline management skills are required.
Technical Skills
- Strong market research and analytical skills with knowledge of tourism trends and customer behavior are required.
- Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, is required.
- Travel management systems, booking platforms, CRM systems, or tourism technology experience is advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing travel packages, tourism experiences, or destination programmes is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in tourism, hospitality, travel management, business administration, marketing, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant tourism, hospitality, destination management, or travel industry certifications are advantageous.
- Willingness to travel for destination inspections, supplier meetings, events, or business activities is required.
