Design and Construction Project Manager (Facilities Management)

Analyze, investigate, and interpret existing design data.

Evaluate construction strategies and review and recommend proposed designs.

Develop high-level design concepts to discuss with stakeholders.

Calculate and prepare cost estimates for construction projects.

Provide design, technical, and building science expertise to consultants and contractors.

Liaise with contractors, the general public, and other City divisions regarding project phasing, staging, and scheduling.

Track and control budgets.

Schedule projects and develop initial design concepts.

Conduct public information sessions and site plan approval applications.

Prepare final drawings for tendering and manage the tendering process.

Prepare reports for Council approval and plan construction start and completion dates.

Conduct project and facility life-cycle cost analysis.

Control capital budgeting and make 10-year capital budget recommendations.

Schedule capital projects and evaluate consultants.

Collaborate with the project owner and steering committee stakeholders to create a project plan.

Define project requirements, including roles and responsibilities, decision-making processes, scope of work, schedule, budget, and quality.

Maintain the project plan throughout the project’s life cycle.

Possess working knowledge and experience in sustainable architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil construction design principles and practices.

Fulfill design, negotiation, troubleshooting, and inspection duties.

Interpret and enforce construction contracts, such as CCDC, Integrated Project Delivery, and P3.

Understand and apply construction contract lien legislative law.

Coordinate a stakeholder team comprising staff, community members, and outside consultants.

Define needs and project scope in greater detail.

Establish final design approach, material selection, technical details, and refine the budget in collaboration with the project owner and consultants.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum 3-year degree or diploma in a related field.

Minimum 4 years of direct experience leading and managing large complex construction projects.
