Position Overview
- The Department of Kinetic Imaging at VCUarts Qatar seeks a Visiting Artist whose teaching and creative practice engage interdisciplinary approaches to art, design, computation, and emerging media.
- The position involves participating in the department as an adjunct faculty member including teaching the department’s sophomore level curriculum across five primary domains: Video & Imaging, Spatial Media, Sound, Interaction & Computation, and Game Design.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach sophomore level studio and lecture courses across the Department of Kinetic Imaging curriculum including Video Practices, Animation Practices, Sound Art, 3D Computer Art, Creative Code & Electronics.
- Teach a 15 credit course load across the academic year (typically 4 5 studio courses per year).
- Develop and deliver course content that integrates contemporary approaches to art, design, technology, and emerging media practices.
- Support student learning through critiques, workshops, technical demonstrations, discussions, and mentorship.
- Assist students in developing technical, conceptual, and creative approaches to interdisciplinary media practice.
- Participate in departmental activities including exhibitions, events, critiques, reviews, and collaborative initiatives.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students on interdisciplinary projects, initiatives, and departmental development.
- Support safe, responsible, and effective use of departmental technologies, software, and studio resources.
- Participate in service activities that contribute to the department, school, and university community.
- Participate in annual review and evaluation processes.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in a field related to one or more of the 5 domains of the Kinetic Imaging program: Video & Imaging, Spatial Media, Sound, Interaction & Computation, Game Design.
- Experience with teaching or professional practice in one or more of the 5 domains of the Kinetic Imaging program.
- Experience working within interdisciplinary art and design contexts is preferred.
- Demonstrated creative research, professional practice, or scholarly activity relevant to the field.
- Strong communication, organizational, collaborative, and mentorship skills are preferred.

- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
- Proactive communication and collaborative engagement across teaching, research, and departmental activities.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability within complex, interdisciplinary environments that seamlessly integrate art, design, technology, and culture.
- Ability to develop learning experiences that support experimentation, critical thinking, and creative inquiry.
- Skilled in fostering collaborative environments centered on creative experimentation and critical making.
- Proven ability to foster cultural exchange, engage with a community of dynamic thinkers, and champion interdisciplinary collaboration and exploratory creative practices.
Compensation and Benefits
- Nature of appointment: Temporary adjunct appointment (non benefited position).
- Duration of appointment: August 2026 – May 2027.
- Total compensation for the above duration: $40,000 USD (taxable for U.S. citizens).
- Relocation assistance may be available for the selected candidate in accordance with VCUarts Qatar policies.
- The job offer is contingent on successful background checks and immigration clearance formalities for work visa issuance.
