Position Overview

VCUarts Qatar invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position teaching ARTH 103: Survey of Art I.

The course is an introductory survey covering artistic production from the prehistoric era through the 13th century.

Course examples include selected regions of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, with emphasis on visual analysis and art historical methods.

Course Schedule and Format

  • ARTH 103 is a three-credit semester course with three lecture hours.
  • The course is delivered through online and face-to-face instruction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach ARTH 103 according to the approved course description, learning outcomes, and departmental expectations.
  • Prepare lectures, readings, assignments, discussions, and assessments that support student learning.
  • Introduce visual analysis, art historical methods, key monuments, artists, and historical contexts.
  • Provide timely feedback and academic support to students.
  • Maintain communication with students and the department about course expectations, progress, and academic matters.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grade, and student-progress records using university systems.
  • Foster a respectful, professional, and intellectually engaging classroom environment.
  • Adhere to departmental and university policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in Art History or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Applicants must have university-level teaching experience or relevant professional experience in art history, museum studies, curatorial practice, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
  • Applicants must be able to foster respect, professionalism, and civility with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in Qatar or meet applicable immigration and employment requirements under Qatari law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD in Art History or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Previous university-level experience teaching art history survey courses is preferred.
  • Experience with learning management systems and educational technology is preferred.
  • Experience in international or multicultural higher education environments is preferred.
  • Evidence of student-centered teaching practices is preferred.
