Position overview

VCUarts Qatar invites applications for an adjunct faculty position under Academic Affairs.

The instructor will teach the undergraduate minor course Introduction to Contemporary Digital Culture.

The course examines digital systems, platform culture and the implications of digital dependency.

Course focus

The course explores how platforms, algorithms, interfaces, data collection and digital technologies shape behavior, communication, identity and culture.

Students examine digital dependency across cultural, regional and social contexts.

Instruction includes critical analysis, ethnographic observation and design-based inquiry.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach the course according to its approved description, learning outcomes and Academic Affairs expectations.
  • Develop and deliver materials, readings, assignments, discussions, critiques and assessments.
  • Facilitate critical reflection, ethnographic observation and design-based inquiry.
  • Provide timely feedback and academic support to students.
  • Communicate regularly with students and Academic Affairs about academic matters.
  • Foster a respectful and intellectually engaging classroom environment.
  • Comply with university policies and academic procedures.

Required qualifications

  • A master's degree in a relevant discipline or closely related field is required.
  • Demonstrated university-level teaching or relevant professional experience in digital culture, media, technology, design or critical studies is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
  • The instructor must support a respectful, professional and civil environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • A terminal degree such as a PhD, MFA or equivalent is preferred.
  • Interdisciplinary, general education, media studies, digital culture or related teaching experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ethnographic methods, design-based inquiry, critical theory, platform studies, algorithmic culture, digital ethics or digital safety is preferred.
  • International or multicultural higher education teaching experience is preferred.
  • Innovative, student-centered and discussion-based teaching experience is preferred.
