The Data Engineer is located in Health Protection NSW (HPNSW), within the Epidemiology and Data Systems (EDS) Branch.
The Data Engineer reports to the Manager, System Analytics and will develop and maintain complex data systems and pipelines to allow for the timely, accurate and secure acquisition and reporting of data.
This role will be responsible for the optimisation of data storage and accessibility to meet internal and external reporting demands.
In addition, the role will be working with and assisting other teams within the branch with large scale projects to ensure successful delivery that meets the needs of the public health network, on time and within budget.

What you will be doing
• Design data models, develop database standards, implement, and manage data warehouses.
• Develop and coordinate the mapping and analysis of data assets to be utilised for design, delivery, and benefits system redesign programs.
• Manage the acquisition, management and provision of data pertaining to notifiable diseases including preparation of analysis ready data extracts, metadata, and other supporting documentation.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships and communication with key internal and external stakeholders relating to data assets and system redesign programs.
• Design data solutions to meet business, technical and user requirements. This includes building and modernising data pipelines to meet functional/non-functional business requirements and provide end to end data solutions.
About you We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:
• Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering, Mathematics or Data Science and/or relevant equivalent professional experience. Technical expertise and demonstrated experience in developing data pipelines and analytical services including data ingestion, transformation, storage, and reporting.
• Demonstrated experience in managing projects within a project framework involving scoping, design, access management, maintenance, and post-implementation evaluation.
• Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and maintaining data solutions to meet business, technical and user requirements. This includes building data pipelines that meet functional/non-functional business requirements and provide end to end data solutions.
