Role Overview
The Data Engineer I works in an agile team supporting Research and Managed Services.
This is a hands-on, hybrid technical and operational role involving code, data tools, pipelines, source evaluation, and day-to-day service reliability.
Coding and Development
- Write, review, test, and maintain SQL and Python code for data tools, automations, ingestion, and transformation workflows.
- Automate manual processes, develop coding standards, participate in code reviews, and build web-scraping, API, and reusable data-processing solutions.
- Support scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
Source Evaluation and AI
- Identify and assess data sources for relevance, quality, coverage, accessibility, reliability, compliance, privacy, security, and technical compatibility.
- Perform profiling, validation, proof-of-concept testing, comparative assessments, and source documentation.
- Support AI workflows using orchestration frameworks, language models, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, and prompt engineering.
