Role Overview
The employer is seeking an experienced, hands-on Data Engineer for a global investment firm in Abu Dhabi.
The role designs, builds, and operates data pipelines and models supporting investment teams and middle/back-office functions.
The engineer owns data end-to-end, from source ingestion through lakehouse modeling and data discoverability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
The role partners with business analysts, project managers, and quants to shape pragmatic, scalable architectures.
Responsibilities
- Participate in requirements clarification and sprint planning sessions.
- Design and implement technical solutions, including ETL pipelines.
- Build robust data pipelines in PySpark and optimize ETL processes.
- Write unit and integration tests and support QA teammates during acceptance.
- Ingest vendor and internal sources and model data in an internal lakehouse.
- Make data discoverable, reliable, and cost-efficient for analytics and applications.
- Propose architectures that balance speed, governance, and scalability.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience in IT or data within a financial services environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field is mandatory.
- Financial markets familiarity covering securities, prices, corporate actions, and positions or holdings.
Required Skills
- Exceptional logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in PySpark for distributed computing and Python for ETL development.
- Strong expertise writing and optimizing complex SQL queries.
- Experience with data warehousing concepts and platforms, ideally Databricks.
- Experience with dimensional modeling, normalization or denormalization, and schema design.
- Proficiency with version control tools such as Git.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or custom scripts.
Workplace and Employment
- This is a permanent position based in Abu Dhabi.
- Remote working is not an option.
- Relocation packages are available for candidates outside the region.
