Role Purpose

The Customer Service Representative delivers consistent, high-quality experiences across face-to-face, phone, email, web chat, and social media channels.

The role manages enquiries, registrations, complaints, and transactions while ensuring accurate information, smooth customer journeys, and service standards.

The representative resolves most issues at first contact, escalates when needed, and identifies opportunities to promote relevant products and services.

The role supports customer satisfaction, loyalty, advocacy, and revenue growth through service excellence and proactive engagement.

Role Context

The role sits within the Sales and Customer Service function.

Customer Service Representatives interact with customers across multiple channels and connect them to British Council products and services.

The function supports customer loyalty, business growth, and the British Council mission of building trust and understanding worldwide.

Main Accountabilities

  • Deliver customer service across multiple channels and handle enquiries, complaints, and registrations professionally and accurately.
  • Maintain accurate and timely CRM and system data in line with safeguarding, financial, and information security policies.
  • Recommend suitable products and services during interactions to support sales and retention targets.
  • Provide customer needs and issue insights for continuous improvement and Voice of the Customer initiatives.
  • Support bookings, consultations, payments, refunds, and customer communications in line with quality audit requirements.
  • Continuously develop knowledge of British Council products, services, and policies.

  • Communicating and Influencing: adapt communication for different audiences, listen effectively, and explain clearly.
  • Planning and Organising: plan and prioritize routine tasks, meet deadlines, and follow established processes.
  • Using Technology: confidently use office software, CRM systems, web chat, and social media platforms.
  • Analysing Data and Problems: use available information to solve straightforward problems and escalate complex issues.
  • Managing Risk: consistently follow safeguarding, data protection, and compliance policies.
  • Customer Support: provide clear, accurate, and timely responses while meeting service standards.

Essential Experience

  • Experience working in a customer-facing role and delivering services to agreed quality standards.
  • Strong computer literacy and confidence using standard applications.
  • English at C1 level and the local language.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supporting service-to-sales opportunities during customer interactions.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and digital tools, including CRM platforms and online registration systems.

Education and Certification

  • Education is subject to local requirements, with no specific education or field stated.
