Custodian

The Custodian is a key member of the UAH Facilities & Operations department, which is responsible for the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of the University.

As a Custodian, the employee's primary responsibility is to maintain the cleanliness of the University's buildings.

The employee’s duties will be performed full-time within the second shift (2:00 PM - 10:45 PM).

This shift is eligible for a $1.50 an hour shift differential.

Duties / Responsibilities:

• Clean and disinfect restrooms, classrooms, offices, common areas, entrances and vestibules, elevators and stairwells, and/or other areas as assigned.
• Inspect and evaluate assigned cleaning areas, and perform cleaning tasks until the areas have achieved appropriate levels of cleanliness.
• Empty all trash and recycling receptacles.
• Clean and secure equipment, tools, and other supplies when not in use to ensure maximum usage.
• Organize and maintain clean and safe custodial storage areas at all times.
• Provide excellent customer service to all university constituents by greeting individuals, properly communicating area closures, addressing their concerns to management as soon as they are brought to your attention, and showing respect to others at all times.
• Follow current industry safety standards and guidelines.
• Wear personal protective equipment as trained and operate equipment following proper operational procedures.
• High school education or equivalent.
• It is essential that the employee be physically able and capable of operating all equipment.
• Prior janitorial experience is desired.
