About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Controls Project Engineer to serve as the technical lead on complex automation and controls projects. In this role, you will own all technical aspects of assigned projects—from PLC programming and electrical system design to testing, commissioning, and documentation. You will act as the subject matter expert onsite, guiding the controls team and ensuring projects are delivered on time, to specification, and in alignment with company standards and customer expectations.

What You’ll Do:
Serve as the technical lead for assigned controls projects, supporting onsite teams through execution and commissioning
Develop, review, and approve PLC programs, electrical designs, and functional design documentation (FDDs)
Lead system testing and commissioning, ensuring compliance with specifications, safety standards, and customer requirements
Oversee contractors and vendors to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to project scope
Identify, escalate, and resolve technical issues and roadblocks within defined timelines
Collaborate cross-functionally with project management, engineering, and operations teams
Ensure all checkout and commissioning documentation is complete and accurate prior to project closeout
Travel extensively to project sites (50–70% during peak periods) to support onsite execution
