Job Overview

  • The Consultant Physician is responsible for leading and supervising the delivery of high quality evidence based care.
  • Effectively and efficiently diagnosing, managing and treating all patients placed under the post holder's care.
  • Expected to be an example of clinical excellence and provide leadership and training for junior medical staff.

Qualification

  • Tier 1: NLT 2 years relevant experience as a consultant or equivalent post board certification.
  • Tier 2: NLT 8 years full time employment as a Consultant or equivalent post board certification (includes years in fellowship training) in internationally accredited institute.
  • For UAE Nationals: Clinical Fellowship training following primary specialty board may substitute for experience.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice.
  • Oversees the clinical activities of the junior medical staff.
  • Complies with all established hospital policies.
  • Practices appropriate utilization of the organization's resources.
  • Leads ward round; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis.
  • Accurately documents all relevant clinical information.
  • Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required.
  • Liaises with other medical specialties and support services.
  • Actively participates in multi disciplinary meetings.
  • Ensures preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent.
  • Accepts clinically appropriate referrals.
  • Participates in and ensures the provision of out of hours (on call) coverage on a rotational basis.

Managerial/Administration

  • Supports, implements, and follows all hospital, departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.
  • Helps lead and implement the organization's performance management system.
  • Participates in the organization's performance management system.
  • Assists with scheduling and supports the Division Chief.
  • Attends Divisional meetings as required.
  • Assists the Division Chief in the recruitment of new medical staff when appropriate.
  • Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Division Chief.

Quality & Safety

  • Helps lead quality improvement within the Department.
  • Supports a culture of regular audit and encourages the use of audit results for improving clinical practice.
  • Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.

Education

  • Fosters a culture of learning, development and continuous improvement across the Department.
  • Promotes and assists in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff.
  • Facilitates the provision of essential training relevant to clinical staff in the specialty.
  • Shows commitment to Continued Medical Education (CME).
  • Promotes and participates in clinical research and publication.
  • Keeps abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
