Concepteur électrique / Electrical Designer

DEC in electronics or equivalent recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation.

A minimum of 10 years of experience in product design, system qualification and manufacturing validation.

Experience in a formal project development environment.

Experience in mass transit or rail is an asset.

Certified IPC 610/620.

Certified WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).

AutoCAD 2014 is an asset.

MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, & Visio).

Mentor Graphics’ DxDesigner or OrCAD Capture.

SolidWorks Electrical 2D and 3D.

Electrical harness design including crimping and soldering.

Digital and analog design (including motor control).

Leadership and proven accountability.

Excellent communication skills, able to efficiently explain complex technical issues.

Knowledge of French is required for positions permanently located in Quebec so incumbents can communicate with their colleagues and partners in Quebec as necessary. French-language training is offered to all incumbents in permanent positions in Quebec who do not have a good knowledge of French.

Other language requirement

Fluent English is required for this position in order to communicate with colleagues, clients and partners (or suppliers) located outside Quebec and to understand the technical and scientific documentation available in fields relevant to our industry.

Available to travel 10% of the time.

Must be able to travel to the United States for business.

Valid driver’s license.

Estimating the effort required to design and document electrical and electronic products.

Ensuring that the cost of electrical and electronic engineering activities remains within budget.

Planning, organizing, and monitoring electrical and electronic engineering activities.

Automating test benches.

Estimating and tracking the costs of electrical and electronic products.

Analyzing and understanding technical specifications and standards.

Building, modifying, and repairing wiring harnesses, installations, and printed circuit board assemblies.

Designing and documenting electrical and electronic products—including assembly drawings and schematics—and overseeing the layout of panels and harnesses.

Participate in design reviews for electrical or electronic products.

Verify and approve electrical and electronic products in accordance with documentation or industry standards (if technically qualified to do so).

Provide support for legacy products.

Define the necessary tests (routine and qualification) with the test engineer/designer.

Validate test equipment built in collaboration with the test engineer/designer and the electronics technician.

Provide support to our manufacturing sites and suppliers, either remotely from Montreal or on-site.

Select test facilities and submit requests.

Create purchase orders for parts manufactured by suppliers or to obtain parts for in-house manufacturing.

Ensure that all equipment required for testing has been calibrated.

Perform tests with or without the test engineer/designer.

Write test reports.

Perform failure analyses, including reporting and presenting findings to the client.

Deliver technical presentations to clients.

Provide support for supplier selection and qualification, as well as for the bidding and advanced development team.

Organize and maintain the electronics laboratory workspace.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
