About the Role
Gerald Group seeks a Commercial Analyst to support commodity trading operations in Dubai. The role involves pricing and market analysis, P&L review, trade allocation, and model building using Excel and Python.

Responsibilities
- Build and update gasoil and freight forward curves; decompose MtM PnL into flat price and spreads; monitor time spreads, location differentials, and freight rate movements; flag trading opportunities to desk head
- Monitor FFA market: track Baltic routes, FFA settlement prices, and paper vs. physical freight economics
- Provide market intelligence reports and decision support to desk head on a daily/weekly basis
- Allocate trades across books and legal entities; reconcile positions between front office and risk systems
- Monitor all costs (demurrage, Q&Q, logistics) and ensure accurate reflection in trading P&L
- Ensure strong control framework by maintaining all operational activities in the Risk System
- Build analytical models independently: pricing tools, scenario analysis, position monitors, break even calculators using Excel, Python, and AI assistants
- Integrate internal datasets to produce actionable dashboards for desk and management
- Act as backup to operations team; handle documentation and invoices; manage quality and quantity issues from physical operations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related quantitative field
- 1 3 years post graduation experience in commodity trading house, bank commodity desk, shipping company, or brokerage with exposure to energy or freight markets
- Financial literacy with ability to use AI tools for model building, data analysis, and report generation
- Strong work ethic and ability to learn quickly in a fast paced, high pressure environment
- Maintain composure and communicate clearly under pressure
- Ability to succeed working as part of a small, high output team
- Advanced aptitude for problem solving and multitasking
- Second language (French, Arabic, Russian, or Mandarin) a plus

Role Overview
- The role will be based in Dubai and include travel (min 25% of the calendar year).
- The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the responsibilities within a 12 months timeframe.
Pricing & Market Analysis
- Build and update gasoil and freight forward curves. Decompose MtM PnL into flat price and spreads. Monitor time spreads, location differentials, and freight rate movements; flag trading opportunities to desk head.
- FFA market monitoring: track Baltic routes, FFA settlement prices, and paper vs. physical freight economics.
- Provide market intelligence reports and decision support to the desk head on a daily/weekly basis.
PnL Review & Trade Allocation
- Trade allocation: allocate trades across books and legal entities; reconcile positions between front office and risk systems.
- Monitor all costs (demurrage, Q&Q, logistics) and ensure accurate reflection in the trading P&L.
- Ensure a strong control framework by maintaining all operational activities in the Risk System.
Model Building & Operations
- Build analytical models independently: pricing tools, scenario analysis, position monitors, break even calculators – using Excel, Python, and AI assistants as force multipliers.
- Internal data integration: connect internal datasets to produce actionable dashboards for desk and management.
- Act as a backup to the operations team; handle documentation & invoices; manage quality and quantity issues from physical operations and other duties as requested or assigned.
Educational Qualification And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related quantitative field.
- 1–3 years post graduation experience – ideally in a commodity trading house, bank commodity desk, shipping company, or brokerage with demonstrable exposure to energy or freight markets.
- Financial literacy with the ability to use AI tools to accelerate model building, data analysis and report generation.
