Co-Op Student Engineering Linear Projects

Through your work term, you'll gain practical exposure to:

• Construction monitoring and field site inspections
• Contractor performance and progress tracking
• Capital project administration and reporting
• Engineering document management and SharePoint systems
• Project schedule and budget monitoring
• Franchise Agreement review and approval processes
• Utility relocation assessments and standards compliance reviews
• Coordination with internal stakeholders, contractors, and municipal agencies
• Project closeout activities and asset-in-service tracking

This experience will provide valuable insight into how engineering, construction, and operations teams work together to successfully deliver utility infrastructure projects.

Depending on project needs, you'll have opportunities to work in both office and field environments while supporting active projects across Edmonton.

You'll be involved in a variety of project coordination and engineering support activities, including:

• Assisting with monitoring contractor activities at project sites and tracking construction progress
• Supporting project managers with schedule, budget, and project administration activities
• Coordinating communication between engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction teams
• Maintaining project documentation and records within SharePoint and other project management systems
• Tracking project status, capital work orders, and asset-in-service activities
• Preparing Franchise Agreement sign-off packages and coordinating approvals
• Reviewing water line relocation requests for program eligibility and standards compliance
• Participating in project meetings, site visits, and the preparation of meeting records
• Supporting project closeout and project reporting activities

To be successful in this role, you should:

• Be currently enrolled in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering at a recognized post-secondary institution
• Have an interest in utility systems, infrastructure projects, or construction management
• Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Be comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
• Have excellent organizational and time-management abilities
• Be able to interpret engineering drawings and construction plans
• Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word

• Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation
• Familiarity with GIS applications such as ArcGIS or ESRI products
• Previous exposure to engineering project delivery, construction, or utility infrastructure projects
• Experience working with technical documentation, drawings, or project records

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

• Term 1: $34.84/hour
• Term 2: $36.38/hour
• Term 3: $38.01/hour
• Term 4: $39.74/hour
• Term 5: $41.52/hour

Final wage placement will be determined at the time of selection in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.
