Co-op, Corporate Accounting

Emera Inc. is currently seeking a Co-op, Corporate Accounting student for the Winter term (Jan 4 – April 30, 2027) with our Corporate Accounting team.

This 16-week opportunity provides hands-on experience and valuable exposure to the corporate financial close process, cross-affiliate transactions, and accounting operations, while working closely with finance professionals across the organization.

What you’ll do:

As a co-op student, you will contribute to key accounting processes and support financial operations within the Corporate Accounting team.

This includes:

• Perform full-cycle accounting duties, including preparation of journal entries and monthly bank and account reconciliations
• Prepare Statistics Canada surveys and support other regulatory filing requirements
• Prepare monthly intercompany billings, categorize charges for tax reporting purposes, and complete related variance analysis
• Support month-end and year-end financial close activities
• Assist with routine and ad hoc requests from Corporate Accounting and other finance departments

Work term outcomes:

By the end of your work term, you will have:

• Developed an intermediate understanding of full-cycle corporate accounting practices
• Gained exposure to corporate financial close processes and financial reporting activities
• Built knowledge of the financial structure and operations of Emera and its affiliated companies

Who you are:

You're a proactive and detail-oriented student in your 2 nd , 3 rd or 4 th year of an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance, looking to develop your accounting knowledge and gain meaningful corporate finance experience in a collaborative environment.

You bring:

• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• A strong work ethic, analytical thinking, and a collaborative mindset
• A sharp eye for detail and a passion for learning
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
• Previous accounting or tax experience considered an asset, but not required
