Role Overview

Core Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering department.
• Develop planned preventative maintenance programs and capital improvement initiatives.
• Manage HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, water, BMS, and life-safety systems.
• Inspect guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities, plant rooms, and building infrastructure.
• Manage reactive and preventative maintenance while minimizing disruption to operations.
• Coordinate contractors and specialist service providers and ensure compliance with safety standards and permits to work.
• Manage budgets, expenditure, engineering inventories, and utility optimization initiatives.
• Respond to emergencies and critical system failures.
• Collaborate with operational departments to resolve engineering challenges.
• Analyze performance metrics and implement data-driven improvements.

Required Skills and Experience

• Extensive Chief Engineer, Senior Engineering Manager, or equivalent leadership experience in hospitality, commercial, or high-end residential environments.
• Advanced knowledge of building services, maintenance systems, and infrastructure management.
• Expertise in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and water systems.
• Experience leading engineering teams and managing contractors, vendors, and specialist service providers.
• Understanding of statutory compliance, building codes, and planned preventative maintenance programs.
• Analytical and problem-solving ability for complex technical issues.
• Proficiency with IT systems and maintenance management software.
• Budgeting, financial management, procurement, communication, organizational, and health and safety capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications and Certifications

• City & Guilds, NVQ, or BTEC engineering qualifications are preferred.
• Electrical or mechanical engineering certifications are preferred.
• IOSH, Legionella/L8, water hygiene, water treatment, project management, or energy management certifications are preferred.
