Role Overview
As a Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing, selecting, and purchasing products that align with market trends, customer needs, and business objectives.
You will work closely with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery, optimal inventory levels, and the best possible pricing and quality for our sports product range.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the buying strategy for sports apparel, footwear, and equipment, ensuring a well-balanced product assortment that meets customer demand and drives sales.
- Source new products, negotiate with suppliers, and manage vendor relationships to ensure competitive pricing, high-quality products, and timely deliveries.
- Analyze market trends, competitor offerings, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for product development and assortment improvement.
- Collaborate with merchandising, marketing, and planning teams to forecast demand, manage inventory levels, and plan for seasonal and promotional product needs.
- Prepare and maintain purchase orders, track deliveries, and ensure that stock is replenished in line with sales performance and demand forecasts.
- Monitor product performance, analyze sales data, and adjust buying strategies as needed to maximize profitability and minimize excess inventory.
- Work closely with the visual merchandising team to ensure products are effectively displayed in stores and online, aligned with the brand’s look and seasonal campaigns.
- Manage the budget for the sports category, tracking expenses, negotiating favorable terms with suppliers, and ensuring margin targets are met.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, emerging brands, and innovations in the sports sector to keep the product offering fresh and relevant.
- Coordinate with logistics and supply chain teams to ensure timely product delivery and resolve any supply chain issues or delays.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to support product launches, promotional campaigns, and seasonal events.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, Fashion Merchandising, Sports Management, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience as a buyer or in a buying role, ideally in the sports industry or related categories (e.g., activewear, outdoor products).
- Strong understanding of the sports market, including consumer behavior, trends, and key product categories (e.g., performance wear, footwear, fitness equipment).
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and demand forecasting tools.
- Proven track record of successful supplier negotiation and relationship management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data, market trends, and customer feedback to inform buying decisions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and buying software; familiarity with retail analytics tools is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams such as merchandising, planning, marketing, and logistics.
- Creative eye for product assortment and visual merchandising, with the ability to identify products that resonate with the target customer.
- A proactive, solution-oriented attitude with the ability to anticipate trends and respond quickly to market changes.
