Key Responsibilities
- Design, write, iterate, and version prompts and system instructions for the product’s AI assistant.
- Translate business rules and operating procedures into reliable model instructions, examples, and constraints.
- Define and maintain assistant tools, including their functions, arguments, and usage conditions, with engineers.
- Collect, clean, chunk, structure, and maintain the knowledge used by the assistant.
- Build evaluation sets, run them on each change, and report accuracy, regressions, and failure patterns.
- Integrate and tune speech recognition and image or document recognition for real user input.
- Investigate AI failures and trace causes to prompts, retrieved data, or tool definitions.
- Monitor token usage, latency, and cost per request and propose quality-preserving improvements.
- Test the assistant across the languages it serves and verify correctness in each language.
- Apply responsible-use practices by protecting sensitive data and flagging prohibited outputs.
- Document assistant capabilities and limitations and update the in-app user manual when behavior changes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, artificial intelligence, data science, engineering, or a related field.
- One to three years of experience building with large language models or other AI services is required; internships and substantial personal or open-source AI projects will be considered.
- Demonstrable prompt engineering experience with a commercial large language model is required.
- Working understanding of tokens, context windows, temperature, embeddings, structured output, and hallucination causes is required.
- Ability to read and write code for API calls and JSON processing using Python or JavaScript/TypeScript is required.
- Ability to design test cases and evaluate model output objectively is required.
- Familiarity with JSON, CSV, and basic SQL is required.
- Comfort with Git and a pull-request-based workflow is required.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and attention-to-detail skills are required.
- Excellent written and spoken English is required.
